New Models From Milan for 2015

With annual EICMA World Motorcycle Fair in Milan, Italy opening its doors to the public tomorrow, motorcycle manufacturers have been using the lead-up days to unveil new and freshened models. There are almost too many new models from Milan for 2015 to count, so here’s an initial smattering to whet riders’ appetites with more to come in another post:

BMW:

BMW’s come up with an “adventure sport” derivative of its S 1000 RR superbike. The S 1000 XR (pictured below) mixes “touring qualities, sporty performance and high levels of comfort as well as outstanding everyday usability.” It’s powered by a 999cc inline four engine and has ABS standard. No price yet.

Ducati:

Ducati has the new 1299 Panigale superbike (picture below – top) and a redesigned Multistrada 1200 (below- bottom) for 2015. They join the previously released Scrambler as fresh models for the Italian bike-maker’s 2015 lineup.1-02 1299 PANIGALE S

Kawasaki:

Kawasaki has revealed the street version of its 300-horsepower H2-R. The new Ninja H2 (pictured below) has a 998cc supercharged inline four engine. It will be a limited edition model costing $25,000.

Triumph:

The British manufacturer plans a limited edition version of its 2,294cc, three cylinder engine-powered Rocket III behemoth dubbed the Rocket X (pictured below). Limited to 500 units, the Rocket X will feature individually numbered side panels and billeted aluminum name badge. A high-gloss paint scheme will have “grind” effect stripes. The exhaust, handlebars and mittors will be blackened and the wheels will also be black with a hand-painted silver stripe.

Triumph also plans a special edition “dark” version of the Thunderbird called the Nightstorm. It features blackened components (handlebars, mirrors, floorboards, brake and shifter levers. Powered by a 1,699cc parallel twin engine, the Nightstorm will also have a deluxe seat and lower seat height, custom paint with ghost flames and all-black exhausts.

Yamaha:

Yamaha plans a touring version of its popular FZ-09 naked bike. The new FJ-09 (pictured below) uses the same 847cc liquid-cooled triple engine and has a sizable 4.8-gallon tank. It comes with windscreen and hand guards and weighs in at 462 pounds. It will come in matte gray and candy red. MSRP is $10,490.

Yamaha’s also coming out with a overhauled YZF-R1 sport bike (pictured below) that is narrower and lighter than its predecessor. It’s powered by a 998cc inline four and weighs 439 pounds. MSRP is $16,490 with an “M” version going for $21,990.
