Honda Unveils More New Models For 2014

Honda is out with some more new models for 2014, including the CBR650F, the Interceptor (pictured above) and an updated version of the CB1100. Here are some details:

– CBR650F is a new middleweight sport bike with an inline four engine that, Honda says, “strikes a terrific balance 2014 Honda CBR650Fbetween full-on sport bike styling, nimble handling, overall performance, comfort and plenty of versatility – all at a great price.”

The model will come in red, candy blue and matte black metallic. Prices will run from $8,499 to $8,999. It will be available in summer.

– The Interceptor is a 782cc sport bike with a V4 power plant. A Deluxe version comes with ABS standard, traction control, heated grips, self-canceling turn signals and a center stand.

The Interceptor model, which was last sold here about five years ago, will come in two colors – red and white – and will be available in May. The prices ranges from $12,499 to $13,499.

– CB1100 gets updated with a six-speed transmission and (up from a five-speed), new instrumentation that 2014 Honda CB1100 Deluxe.includes an MPG readout, a trip computer and gear position indicator.

There’s also a new Deluxe version with a larger fuel tank with a half-gallon of added capacity, ABS, four-into-two exhaust, a new stitched seat and new side covers.

The base version will come in black for 2014 with an MSRP of $10,399, while the Deluxe will come in candy red and cost $11,899. They will be in showrooms in March.

Motorcycle sales in the U.S. rose 1.4 percent in 2013 over 2012, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council, which tracked sales results for 20 brands representing 75 percent of the industry.

Sales of dual-purpose bikes were up 7.8 percent to 32,979. Sales of street bikes were up 2 percent to 324,691. Sales of off-road bikes were up 5.7 percent to 73,371. But sales of scooters were down 15.5 percent.

Worldwide sales of Japanese motorcycles dropped for the Big Four in 2013, the third consecutive year of decline. Production decreased 5.4 percent to 563,169 bikes. On a brand-by-brand basis:

– Honda was down 29.8 percent to 141,800.

– Kawasaki was down 5.3 percent to 72,651.

– Suzuki was up 16 percent to 173,319.

– Yamaha was up 4.9 percent to 173,918.

By comparison, American brand Harley-Davidson sold 260,839 new bikes last year, while European builders KTM and BMW sold 123,859 and 115,191 bikes respectively.
