Spring’s Arrival Means Start of Rider Courses

The arrival of spring means the resumption of Connecticut Rider Education Program courses across the state. For example, Basic Rider Course classes offered at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury begin Friday, but are already filled through mid-May. BRC classes at the UConn campus in Torrington don’t start until the weekend of April 25.

“A lot of people wanted the first class and they didn’t realize we started taking registrations right after Christmas,” said John Purdy Jr., who runs the classes at N.V.C.C. Between the campuses, riders can take the BRS, the Intermediate Rider Course, the Advanced Rider Course and the Experienced Rider Course, which means there’s a class for every rider no matter their skill level or the type of motorcycle they prefer.

“It’s looking good. I have 11 BRCs scheduled in April and all of them are full,” said Purdy. BRC classes hold a maximum of 12 students. Information on all CONREP classes available through N.V.C.C. may be found online at www.nv.edu/motorcycle. For classes at other sites, visit Ride4Ever.org.

It happened last Saturday near San Diego. A California Highway Patrol Officer pulled over bunny-chp-easter-1a guy riding a Ural with a sidecar on I-8 for not wearing a helmet.

The excuse given was that he was on his way to a charity event, and that’s why he was dressed as the Easter Bunny – complete with floppy ears, white gloves and large feet.

Officer Adam Griffiths let the bunny off with a warning. He also reminded the bunny that riding with obstructed vision is dangerous on a freeway.
