Even a Slow-Speed Test Can Be Hazardous…

Anyone who has ever taken a demo ride and signed a “you break it, you pay for it” release form knows the pit-of-the-stomach worry that comes with riding a borrowed bike. The best part of getting manufacturer loaners to ride and review for me is sometimes simply getting them back to the dealer or factory agent without a scratch. There’s a feeling of relief.

Factoring into the riding equation is the fact that even a good rider can have a bad day or make an occasional misjudgment. That’s certainly the case for motorcyclist journalist Lolo of France’s “Moto Journal” who took a new 2013 Yamaha FJR1300 for a ride through a marina and failed to take into account the width of the hard saddlebags:
