QUECHEE, VT – In the 50 states, there are 44 chapters of B.A.C.A., which stands for Bikers Against Child Abuse. Two of the states lacking chapters are in New England – Rhode Island and Vermont, but a drive is underway to establish a B.A.C.A. chapter in Vermont.
Shawn “Bulldog” Marchetti is spearheading the effort. “I have spent many nights watching my local news and seeing stories of children being abused in one form or another. Having gone through that myself when I was very little, I wanted to do something. I couldn’t sit around and do nothing any more,” he explained in an email.
Marchetti contacted B.A.C.A. International and was put in contact with the person in charge of chapter development for New England. After finding a few like-minded riders, Marchetti and others visited the Massachusetts chapter. He said the group now hopes to obtain “temporary chapter status” by summer.
B.A.C.A.’s mission statement explains that the group “exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization. We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse…”
Marchetti is looking for more Vermont riders to join B.A.C.A. Anyone interested may email him at VTBulldog@hotmail.com.
