Polaris Industries Inc. on Friday announced plans for a new production facility in Huntsville, AL. The 600,000-square foot facility on a 453-acre site will “provide additional capacity and flexibility” for off-road vehicle production.
Polaris external relations manager Marlys Knutson said the new plant will be used for building its Ranger line of off-road vehicles.
Polaris said it selected Huntsville “due to its skilled workforce, history of technology and innovation, existing utility infrastructure, and strong local and state resources supporting economic development.”
The company plans to break ground on the facility in the first quarter of 2015 and expects to complete it in the second quarter of 2016. The plant will employ 1,700 workers.
Production of Indian and Victory motorcycles and the Slingshot three-wheeler will remain in Spirit Lake, IA.
