LAS VEGAS – A 100-year-old Cyclone board track racer once owned by actor Steve McQueen sold at auction over the weekend for $775,000. It was part of the more than 220 motorcycles in the E.J. Cole collection that Mecum Auctions sold at the South Point Casino and Exhibit Hall.
The Cyclone was built by the Minnesota-based Joerns Motor Manufacturing Company, which only existed from 1912 to 1917. An estimated 300 were produced and only six are known to exist today.
The Cyclone was powered by a 1,000cc V2 engine that had 45 horsepower. It was capable of a top speed of 111 miles per hour.
Also garnering hefty prices at the Mecum Auctions sale were a 1907 Harley-Davidson that sold for $650,00, a 1911 Flying Merkel for $385,000, a 1942 Crocker for $350,000 and a 1932 Indian for $225,000. Here’s a link to the auction results.
