BOLOGNA, Italy – It’s no surprise, but the Scrambler is a hit for Ducati. In the first six months of 2015, Ducati sold more than 9,000 of its Scrambler models worldwide. The company reported an overall sales increase of 22 percent over the first half of 2014 with a total of 32,600 bikes sold.
The U.S. is Ducati’s biggest market and year-to-year sales were up 10 percent. The biggest percentage increase for January-June was in Italy where sales were up 51 percent, followed by Spain with 38 percent, the U.K. with 36 percent, Germany with 24 percent and France with 23 percent.
Ducati set a monthly sales record in June with 7,400 sold, a 60 percent increase over June 2014. The brand achieved record sales in North America in June of more than 1,900 sold.
In addition to the Scrambler, Ducati reports sales of 4,700 of its Multistrada 1200, 3,700 of its Monster 821 and more than 3,000 of its Panigale model.
Also posting impressive numbers for the first half of the year was BMW, which sold a six-month record 78,418 motorcycles and scooters worldwide. That represents a 10.5 percent increase over 2014. The company also had a record June with 15,490 vehicles sold.
BMW’s best-selling model continued to be the R 1200 GS with 14,099 sold.
