MINNEAPOLIS – Indian is recalling more than 18,000 motorcycles from the 2014 through 2016 model years due to a fire risk potentially caused by elevated exhaust temperatures.
A total of 18,367 of the Chief Classic, Dark Horse, Chieftain, Roadmaster, Vintage, Springfield and Chieftain Dark Horse models manufactured between April 15, 2013 and June 16, 2015 are affected.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports, “In the event of an an engine misfire, unburned fuel may pass through parts of the exhaust system, raising the exhaust temperatures.”
The consequence is “Elevated exhaust temperatures may result in an increased risk of fire.”
Indian is notifying owners and dealers will update the engine control module (ECM) software free of charge.
