Had to drive to Torrington this morning to pick up a “RIDE-CT” banner to display at Torrington Thunder on July 22. In the commuter lot on Route 118, on the east side of Route 8, I noticed a vintage Triumph and some other bikes and scolded myself for not stopping to check them out.
On the way home, I swung by the lot in hopes that the riders would still be there. They were and had been joined by even more riders. It was a gathering of members of British Iron Association of Connecticut, a club made up of motorcyclists who love Triumphs, BSAs, Nortons and all other British brands.
A diverse collection of motorcycles was on display – old and new Triumphs, an old Norton, old BSA and even an old Honda, owned by Peter Thiel. How’d that get in there? The group was getting ready to pull out, so I didn’t have the opportunity to get everyone’s name and bike info. I was handed a flier reminding me that Brit Jam, the club’s annual British meet, will be Sunday, Aug. 21. Been planning to attend for months.
