Harley Sued By Paralyzed Ex-Firefighter

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

Longtime Chicago firefighter Jim McMahon was left paralyzed from the chest down and in need of 24-hour care following a 2004 motorcycle crash in Arizona, and he’s now suing Harley-Davidson for allegedly building a faulty, problematic bike that, in the words of attorney Scott Hooper, “weaved and wobbled” before it went down. McMahon was riding a 2004 black and cobalt Screamin’ Eagle Electra Glide when he crashed on March 29, 2004 near Benson, Ariz. McMahon’s wife, Kimberly, testified before jurors yesterday and “The Chicago Tribune” has the story here. The victim’s testimony last week and more background from “The Chicago Tribune” can be found here.

  1. As usual, it’s the bikes fault, it’s the guns fault, it’s societies fault.
The bike started to “wobble” when he tried to slow down and so he sped up………Huh?
Aside from a sudden catastrophic failure, a handling problem is noticeable long before it’s a major issue.
    Sad.
The motorcycle industry has enough to deal with currently without the specter of frivolous lawsuits.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out,
if the plaintiff wins, every manufacturer is open to lawsuits from every accident that occurs and motorcycles will be a thing of the past.
