Kawasaki is being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over a possible stalling problem that could affect nearly 10,000 of its 2013 model year Ninja 300s.
The NHTSA has received 18 complaints from owners claiming that the engine stalls “when the operator reduces throttle input (e.g., slowing for stopped traffic).” Forum postings on the problem have also helped prompt the NHTSA into investigating.
The Ninja 300 is fuel-injected, “which many dealers have identified as contributing to this issue,” the NHTSA said. “A preliminary investigation has been opened to further analyze the scope, frequency, and severity of the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.”
