Might EBR start building high-performance motorcycles again? A judge in Wisconsin today approved the sale of the former Erik Buell Racing, which ceased operations last April and went into receivership. The new owner is Liquid Asset Partners of Grand Rapids, MI, which got EBR’s manufacturing assets for $2 million.
The “Journal Sentinel” newspaper in Milwaukee quotes the new owner as saying a comeback is possible if the right business partners get involved.
“We will not be manufacturing motorcycles, as Liquid Asset, but we will be working to put together a plan with a team that can be successful in doing that,” said Liquid Asset owner Bill Melvin Jr. “There are no guarantees. A portion of our business is that we are liquidators, but we are also power players in the motorcycle industry.”
The newspaper reports that Liquid Asset Partners will seek investors or a buyer for EBR, which was based in East Troy, WI.
Today’s sale was approved by Walworth County Circuit Court judge Philip Koss. It was the third auction of EBR’s assets since the company filed for receivership, a state court proceeding similar to bankruptcy.
At an earlier auction last August, New Jersey-based Atlantic Metal Group was awarded the company for $2.25 million but was unable to close the deal by a court-imposed deadline.
