Brookfield Indian Motorcycle/Brookfield Powersports Posts Closing Notice

BROOKFIELD, CT – Connecticut is losing another motorcycle dealer. What began more than eight years ago as Brookfield Indian Motorcycle and later expanded into Brookfield Powersports with the addition of the Royal Enfield and Can-Am brands has confirmed that it’s closing its doors at 20 Federal Road in Brookfield.

“Sad, but true,” wrote dealer principal Rob Gaulin in a brief email this evening to RIDE-CT in response to an inquiry. “Serious health issues leave us no choice.”

The hilltop store was the first dealer in the state to sell the Indian line that was revived by Polaris. The first hint of its arrival came in July 2016 when a job posting on Craigslist sought a parts and service advisor for “a premium motocycle dealership” and required that applicants have “meaningful American V-Twin experience.”

Brookfield Indian Motorcycle/Brookfield Powersports is the second motorcycle dealership in the state to announce its closing in the past week, and the third in the last month. On Thursday, KTM dealer Colonial Power & Sport in Milford, CT revealed that it is closing after five years in business “due to current market conditions beyond its control.”

The last day of business for Colonial Power & Sport will be Feb. 28. Crabtree Motor Group, which owns the store, added Friday that it plans to “pursue our automotive roots” at the location.

Late last month, Max BMW in South Windsor, CT was closed by owner Max Stratton, who has three other BMW stores including the flagship in New Milford, CT.

The timetable for Brookfield Indian Motorcycle/Brookfield Powersports’ closure isn’t known. RIDE-CT is seeking additional information.
