BRIDGEWATER, CT – She did it! This website’s Off The Beaten Path columnist Victoria Zandonella successfully completed an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 ride over the weekend. VZ with XT

Zandonella left New Milford, CT shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday and rode through New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts before returning to Connecticut.

In a brief email Sunday, she reported being worn out “physically and mentally.” Before going back to bed, she added that she was “having an issue with my eyesight today from the eyestrain from 22 hours on the bike riding highway speeds.”

Her goal was to cover 1,002 miles. Her journey could be tracked online via Spot and it was possible to check her progress here. The Iron Butt Association declares its members to be the “world’s toughest motorcycle riders” and the group is dedicated to “safe, long-distance motorcycle riding.”

Zandonella promises a column on her adventure soon.
