A recall by Harley-Davidson of some 3,361 Dyna Low Rider motorcycles from the 2014 model year for an ignition switch that may turn the bike off while its moving is underway.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports, “In the affected motorcycles, certain optional performance electronic control module calibrations may allow higher engines rpms that could result in engine vibrations that cause the ignition switch to move from the “ING” (ignition on) to the “ACC” (accessory only) position, which will shut off the engine.”
The NHTS warns, “If the vibration causes the ignition switch to move to the accessory only position, the engine would stall while riding, increasing the risk of a crash.” The recall notice was only made public on Friday and is posted here.
Harley-Davidson is notifying owners of Dyna Low Riders made between Jan. 6, 2014 and June 19, 2014 and will replace the engine mount bracket assembly and ignition switch knob free of charge.
The recall of the Dyna Low Riders is the latest in a series of recent recalls by Harley-Davidson this year. In July, 66,421 of the company’s 2014 Touring and CVO Touring models were recalled because of a potential brake lockup problem, while in June some 209 Sportster models from 2014 were recalled for a bad chrome land level kits that could interfere with brake operation.
