Details are sketchy, but a web domain for GG Taurus of New England has been acquired with a static page enabling those who stumble upon it to go to another page (apparently owned by the brand’s U.S. importer) that has a digital clock counting down to “the exclusive unveiling of the GG Taurus in Miami on April 5th 2014.”
What’s a GG Taurus? It’s a reverse trike that looks a lot like a Can-Am Spyder. Made in Switzerland by Grueter and Gut Technik, it’s powered by a BMW inline four-cylinder engine. With 175 horsepower, it has a governor-limited top speed of 137 miles per hour.
What sets the GG Taurus apart from the Spyder is the price. An “order” page lists the base price for a 2013 model at $89,075. That’s more than five times the base price of the least expensive 2014 Spyder, which costs slightly more than $16,000.
RIDE-CT.com/Ride-NewEngland.com emailed an address supplied for GG Taurus of New England seeking more info, but it came back as undeliverable.
A Twitter account for the importer of the GG Taurus promised on Nov. 30, 2012 that “The GG Taurus trike is coming very soon to the U.S.” and noted on Dec. 6, 2012 that “The first four GG Taurus trikes will be soon. These will blaze a trail to a new era of biking on the U.S. (sic).”
On Dec. 28, 2012, a Twitter post again promised “Bikes coming soon” but it wasn’t until more than seven months later – on Aug. 4, 2013 – that the Twitter feed proclaimed that “The GG Taurus is now officially in the U.S.” It was accompanied by this picture:
While there hasn’t been a Twitter post since Aug. 13, a Facebook page has been more active. It notes that “due to the exclusivity of the brand,” each GG Taurus is pre-sold before it is manufactured. A post on Friday stated, “As your GG Taurus is being built, so is the anticipation!”
The high price of the GG Taurus certainly serves to make the Can-Am Spynder even more attractive to buyers.
