Police in Hamden, CT last week arrested a motorcyclist on a variety of charges after spotting him run a red light on a “police” bike, which was actually a dirt bike equipped with siren as well red and blue flashing lights. The bike had the word “police” stenciled in various places.
Nicholas Ferrucci, 21, of nearby North Haven was pulled over Sept. 10 and charged for not only the traffic signal violation but also with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, operating an unregistered motorcycle vehicle, operating without insurance, having unauthorized lights and flashing lights, and for the traffic signal violation.
In a press release put out Monday by the police department, Capt. RonaldPolice said a detective witnessed Ferrucci run a red light at the intersection of Whitney and Washington avenues about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, then continue on James Street with lights and siren engaged.
While Ferrucci had not yet been charged with impersonating an officer, Smith said he department had received multiple reports of a person pulling drivers over with a fake police motorcycle.
Ferrucci was released on $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Meriden on Sept. 24.
