Harley-Davidson unwrapped a new Softail model at Daytona Bike Week this morning, showing off a less expensive, non-CVO version of the CVO Breakout. While the CVO Breakout, introduced last August, has a starting price at $26,499, the less flashy version will start at $17,899 in black. Versions in Big Blue Pearl and Ember Red Sunglo will cost $18,299.
Powered by an air-cooled, Twin Cam 103B motor (1690cc), the Breakout features a 240mm rear tire beneath a chopped rear end. The front end’s chopped and low, too. There’s also a drag handlebar and 10-spoke cast wheels.
“With Breakout we got down to motorcycle essentials, which means emphasizing the powertrain and the wheels,” says Harley-Davidson Styling Manager Kirk Rasmussen. “The black and chrome engine visually pops out of the center the bike, and then to maximize the impact of the tires, the fenders are chopped. We wanted a lot of rubber showing to give the Breakout a tough, muscular look.”
