KTM Dealer Colonial Power & Sport Closing In Milford, CT After Five Years

(Update: A social media post on Friday says Feb. 28 will be the store’s last day open.)

MILFORD, CT – Colonial Power & Sport, the KTM motorcycle dealer and power equipment store owned by car dealer Robert E. “Bobby” Crabtree, is closing its doors. A notice posted this afternoon on the store’s website said “due to current market conditions beyond its control” that “regrettably it has decided to sunset operations.”

The 17,000-square foot dealership opened five years ago with a vow to become “a destination location.”

At the time it became the fourth KTM outlet in Connecticut, joining the now-closed MotoFIT in Danbury, Manchester Honda-KTM-Husqvarna in Manchester and Motorsports Nation in Plainfield. KTM recently added a dealer in New Milford with the opening of Max KTM.

“For years, Colonial Power & Sports LLC has been a staple in the community, serving passionate recreational vehicle riders with exceptional service and quality products,” said Sarah Crabtree, Director of Marketing, in the statement on the website.

“As the industry landscape continues to evolve, we recognize the opportunity to reinvest in this location and create a new experience that better aligns with the future needs of our customers.”

Crabtree did not say what will become of the property at 480 Boston Post Road other than the “transformation will bring fresh opportunities to the community, with a focus on retail expansion to meet lifestyle changes.”

The shutdown of Colonial Power & Sport comes during a tenuous time for KTM. The Austrian brand is insolvent. Creditors have filed claims worth $2.25 billion and it has a backlog of 300,000 motorcycles in warehouses. As part of a restructuring, KTM parent company Pierer Mobility AG has sold its stake in the MV Agusta brand.

KTM was founded in 1934 and specializes in high-end off-road, adventure and sporty models. It is now considering offers that may keep it in business.
