Maine Bill Would Require Helmets for All Riders

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

A bill in the Maine legislature that would require all riders to wear helmets has been referred to committee.

Proposed by Rep. Paulette Beaudoin, a Democrat from Biddeford, the bill was sent Tuesday to the Transportation Committee. A similar bill introduced by Beaudoin in 2009 got rejected.

Current Maine law requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet whether operating a bike or riding as a passenger. Motorcyclists riding with a learner’s permit or with less than one year’s experience must also wear helmets.

Beaudoin’s bill requires anyone on a bike to be helmeted and, if approved, would restore a helmet law that was repealed in the late 1970s.

The Laffing Devils return to the Discovery channel on Monday, Feb. 18 with the second season premiere of “The Devil’s Ride.” The reality show supposedly looks inside the world of a San Diego motorcycle club. This coming storyline has the Laffing Devils going up against a new splinter club called the Sinister Mob Syndicate (Sin Mob for short).
