McQueen Top Vote-Getter in February Poll

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

The polls closed at midnight Wednesday – OK, more like 9 p.m. – on February’s poll question: “Who’s the coolest rider ever?”

Getting the most votes was actor Steve McQueen, who famously rode a motorcycle in the movie “The Great Escape,” although stunt rider Bud Ekins actually did the riding in the iconic jump scene over barbed wire. McQueen also raced dirt bikes. A shot of him riding graced the cover of “Sports Illustrated” and he was featured in the motorcycle movie “On Any Sunday.” McQueen received 59% percent of the vote in February’s poll and was, pardon the expression, the run-away winner.

Evel Knievel came in second in the balloting with 16%, followed by Henry Winkler (aka Fonzie) with 12 percent, Peter Fonda with 9 percent and Marlon Brando with 4%.

A new poll question has already been posted. It inquires about how much riding you’ve been doing this year during this relatively snow-free winter. Meanwhile, readership of RIDE-CT.com in February more than doubled from February 2011, with a total of 4,951 page views being logged by Google Analytics.
