Following up on the previous post about Ormond Beach, FL-based Bikers Against Drunk Drivers, Charity Navigator, which independently and impartially evaluates and rates non-profits, has now issued a “donor advisory” on B.A.D.D. It’s a warning to potential donors as a result of an investigation done by WESH-TV in Orlando.
That report stated that only a small fraction of money donated to B.A.D.D. gets passed along to victims of drunk drivers – only $8,704 of the $879,891 taken in during 2012.
In a follow-up story, reporter Matt Grant detailed inconsistencies in B.A.D.D.’s tax returns, reporting that the charity listed nearly $1 million in revenue to the state in 2011 but only $50,000 to the IRS. The state is now investigating B.A.D.D. and a state senator in Florida is drafting a bill that would crack down on charities that misreport.
