Mustang Motorcycle Products, maker of the high-end aftermarket Mustang brand motorcycle seats, will this week wrap up consolidation of its operation at its factory in Three Rivers, MA after closing its corporate headquarters in Terryville, CT. The company was founded 33 years ago in Terryville and its executive offices as well as the sales and marketing departments have been housed there.

“We want to grow as a business. To do this, we really needed to be consolidated. We want to achieve a faster pace and offer more to the market,” Mustang marketing director Marilyn Simmons said late Friday afternoon. “Now we’re going to be much more hands-on being in the same location. It will bring a lot of vitality and energy into it.”

Mustang was started in 1980 by Simmons’ brother, Al Simmons, who owns the property and the office building and separate warehouse at 278 and 284 Town Hill Road in Terryvile. The company leased the buildings from him. The 8,000-square-foot office building and the 20,000-square-foot warehouse will be either leased or sold, she said.

“Terryville has been our home, and we’re really, really sorry to leave the area,” Simmons said. She explained the closure of the Terryville operation is designed to make the company more efficient. “It will expedite communication and training and interaction to have all of the employees located in the same place,” she said.

While Mustang has traditionally tailored its seats to the cruiser market, notably building seats aimed at Harley-Davidson owners, the company has recently been expanding its product line by adding seats for Triumph’s “classic” models. It now plans to enter the adventure touring market with seats for BMW’s R 1200 GS model.
