NEW YORK – It’s a hard place to operate a motorcycle dealership. A few years ago, New York City lost its sole BMW dealership on West 57th Street in Manhattan. Now, New York City Harley-Davidson at 4211 Northern Boulevard in Long Island City on the west edge of Queens is closing up shop.
Saturday (Sept. 28) will be the store’s final day, the closure due to “due to current economic conditions and limited real estate options to relocate to,” according to a statement posted on the dealership’s website by owner Paul Veracka.
Other H-D Dealers To Help Transition
“While it’s never easy to close the doors of a legacy dealership, we are confident that the established dealers in the New York area will continue to deliver a premium customer experience for our customers,” Veracka wrote.
“In an effort to make this transition as smooth as possible, Empire Harley-Davidson and Nassau County Harley-Davidson have agreed to honor all New York City H-D gift cards and VIP services.”
Empire Harley-Davidson is in New Rochelle, while Nassau County Harley-Davidson is located in Bellmore, NY on Long Island. There’s also Harley-Davidson of Staten Island in the area.
Service Department Open Until Oct. 5
While motorcycle sales, retails sales of parts and apparel, and other store operations will end on Saturday, the New York City Harley-Davidson’s service department will remain operational for an additional week until Oct. 5 “to complete all open service work orders.”
In announcing the closure, Veracka wrote, “We want to thank all of our loyal customers, community members and our amazing team at New York City H-D for all the support throughout the years. Thank you for the loyalty to our team, dealership and the Harley-Davidson brand. We will always remember the amazing events, great rides and our extended Harley-Davidson family!”
