New York Motorcycle Show Shift To December Explained

Apparently RIDE-CT.com wasn’t alone in wondering why the New York tour stop for Progressive International Motorcycle Shows will shift from the traditional third weekend in January to mid-December for the 2013-2014. The dates for the upcoming show are Dec. 13-15 at H-D display - LRthe Jacobs J. Javits Convention Center. Advanstar Communications reports the venue was unable to supply space in January.

In a mass email today, Julie Messing-Paea, director of public relations and communications for event promoter Advanstar Communications, explained, “When working with convention centers and visitor bureaus in each city, we attempt to secure our venue one year out. This is why we have consistency in some of our shows… However, their first priority is to bring trade shows to their city in order to fill hotel rooms, rather than consumer shows, which forces us at times to shuffle and expand.”

The 2013-2014 tour will have 12 stops, with Phoenix being added and Indianapolis and Charlotte being dropped. Messing-Paea continued, “As everyone knows the Super Bowl is Triumps draped - LRcoming to New York this year and the Javits Center could no longer accommodate the January date.” She also explained, “The Tour schedule is also based the need and requirements of our OEM partners.”

Messing-Paea said Advanstar Communications does see some advantages to a mid-December show in New York. “The December date puts us smack in the middle of the holiday buying and gift-giving season, which is beneficial to our enthusiasts looking to make holiday purchases,” she said.

(BTW, the Super Bowl will be held Feb. 2, 2014 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.)
