As if motorcycle dealers don’t have enough to do already, Indian invited its dealers worldwide back in November to enter a “Project bud-bylineScout” competition. The rules were simple. Take an Indian Scout or Scout Sixty and customize it. There were no restrictions on theme or budget. They only had to use a minimum of three Indian Scout accessories from the current catalogue.

A total of 36 dealers from around the globe – including three from the northeast – entered the fray and pics of their designs are now posted on Indian’s website. The polls are open and will remain open through Feb. 19. The next day, three finalists will be announced, and the dealers behind them will get an all-expenses-paid trip to the 75th annual Daytona Bike Week.

Once at Daytona Beach, a panel of celebrity judges will select the winner on March 11. A fan favorite will also be announced.

Indian Motorcycle of Springfield’s “Blue Max”

One of the regional candidates is “Blue Max” from Indian Motorcycle of Springfield in Westfield, MA. It’s painted sea foam blue and is equipped with Jeep military tires. Blue Max was displayed over the weekend at the Springfield Motorcycle Show and got lots of attention.

“I’m a competitive guy,” said Indian Motorcycle of Springfield owner Dennis Bolduc when asked why his dealership entered the show. Given that Indians were originally built in Springfield between 1901 and 1953, he added, “I figured Indian of Springfield needed to compete in a national contest.”

Blue Max is “a throwback to the old racing Scouts,” said Bolduc, and the sea foam blue color was the used on the 648 Scout models that Indian produced post-World War II and which last raced at Daytona in 1948.

Also submitting entries were Indian Motorcycle of Northern New Jersey in Union, NJ and Indian Motorcycle Wayne in Wayne, NJ.
