Oil Drippings: Vance & Hines Fined by CARB

The California Air Resource Board (CARB) took a chunk of change out of exhaust-maker Vance & Hines bank account in January. It fined the the company $500,000 for selling emissions-related parts not approved by the board. The notice noted that CARB applied a penalty of about $250 per unit to the 2,000 units.

Vance & Hines president Paul Langley said in a news release, “We are pleased to have resolved this matter with ARB, and to have worked out an approach that should avoid future misunderstandings about the proper use of our exhaust systems and emissions-related parts.”

Look for KTM’s 390 Duke model to be sold in the U.S. next year as a 2014 model. Company head Stefan Pierer confirmed in an interview with “Business Standard” that the bike, built in India by Bajaj, is coming to the states. The 390 Duke is a 373cc single-cylinder, four-stroke that has 44 horsepower. No word on price.
