Proposed Bills in CT of Interest to Riders

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

The Connecticut General Assembly is in session and among the proposed bills getting a look-see in Hartford are:

H.B. 5181, proposed by Republican Rep. DebraLee Hovey, would “require any person in the state who owns an all-terrain vehicle to register such vehicle.” A fine would be imposed on any owner who failed to register their ATV. No mention is made of dirt bikes.

H.B. 5187, also proposed by Hovey, would require “all motor vehicles to undergo annual safety inspections.” The bill itemizes some features found on cars and trucks, and does not specifically include motorcycles and scooters,  but also doesn’t exclude them.

S.B. 103, proposed by Republican Sen. Kevin Witkos, would require “persons riding bicycles on a roadway to ride single file, rather than two abreast as currently allowed.”

H.B. 5246, proposed by Republican Rep. Livvy R. Floren, would likewise require bike riders to ride single file.

All of the bills have been referred to the joint Transportation Committee.
