It’s Saturday morning, still dark outside, a half-cup of coffee has been downed and motorcycle thoughts are already rushing through my head. Know the feeling?
I’m meeting later this morning with a guy who wants to see a 1985 BMW K100RS that I have for sale and I have a remote broadcast for WJMJ (FM 88.9) this afternoon, yet all I can think about in these pre-dawn moments are unrelated motorcycle issues:
There’s the article that I read last night in a loaned issue of “BMW ON” (the ON stands for Owners News) that gave reader responses on which is their weaker side when it comes to cornering; was it easier for them turning to the right or left? A total of 57 percent said they had more trouble cornering to the right, while 28 perfect said corning to the left, with 15 percent reporting they were equally confident and competent going either way. I’m in the group that has more trouble going left. Maybe it’s because I’m left-handed when it comes to throwing, but is this really an issue worth mulling on a Saturday morning?
There’s the question that was asked last weekend when I bumped into RIDE-CT reader and V-Rod rider Joe Almeida at Canton Cycles in Winsted. He wanted suggestions on how to get a reluctant wife or significant other to ride pillion and experience the thrill of riding. I didn’t have any ideas and still don’t a week later, and it’s bugging me? Any thoughts?
There’s a new RIDE-CT spinoff feature called “RIDE-CT: Along the Road” that Deb Aleksinas, my editor at “The Republican-American,” and I are working on launching soon. It would take in great eats and other roadside attractions. I need to get a prototype done this weekend, but when will there be time?
There’s also the matter of the 1969 Triumph T100R Daytona. Got it back from having it tweaked this week – new clutch springs, adjustment of valves, etc. – and it needs to spend some time on the road. But when?
The hell with it. Time to reload the coffee cup, go out to the garage and start tidying up. The sun will be coming up in another half-hour or so. The questions can be answered later. It’s the weekend. Knock out the chores and then ride.
