Revived Torrington Thunder To Benefit Theater

TORRINGTON, CT – After a two-year absence, Torrington Thunder is being revived, with the Warner Theatre as the beneficiary of the downtown motorcycle show.

Torrington Thunder was previously staged for three years (2010-2012). The date for this year’s event is Friday, Sept. 11, and is tied to a concert appearance at the Warner Theatre by motorcycle-riding singer and songwriter Scott Helmer.

Helmer is in the middle of 19-month national tour, playing for free for charities and non-profits. His website reports, “To date, more than 150 groups, including seventy-five historic theatres, have signed up.”

One of them is the Warner Theatre.

However, it wasn’t until Torrington Thunder organizer Carrie Maiorino Pfistner and her husband, Karl Pfistner, sent a donation to the theater that the idea of reviving the event got started. On their check was a Harley-Davidson logo. The theater’s development manager, Donna Marconi, saw it and picked up the phone seeking advice on how to promote Helmer’s show.

“We’re going to pull it off in six months,” said Carrie Pfistner of organizing Torrington Thunder’s revival. She announced the show’s return Tuesday on Torrington Thunder’s Facebook page. “A lot of vendors have been in touch with me – they’re very, very interested.”

The earlier Torrington Thunder events raised $16,000 for the Torrington Police Department’s D.A.R.E. program. The goal for the Warner Theatre this year is $5,000. More details to come…
