Road Trip: MV Agusta, Triumph Bobber

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

A holiday weekend trip to D.C. for a wedding enabled RIDE-CT.com to check out the motorcycles and cars this morning at a well-attended event known as Katie’s Cars & Coffee in the Village Center in Great Falls, VA.

Every Saturday morning, hundreds of car and bike enthusiasts gather and hang for a few hours bringing with them vintage and exotic cars and antique bikes. This morning there were loads of Ferraris, several early Mustangs, some Cobras, a few Aston Martins … and maybe a dozen bikes.

“People come here early. By 9 or 10 o’clock, they’re gone,” said motorcycle collector Peter Matthew Calles, who lives in Bethesda, MD. He brought a pristine 1962 MV Agusta 125 Gran Turismo Lusso (below) to show off and he fired it up for spectators.

Parked next to it were two Laverdas – one orange, one black – and two classic Triumphs.

Particularly eye-catching (and parked next to one another) were an old Triumph bobber and a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger in carnival red owned by Jim Lindner of Alexandria, VA.  The car features a retro telescopic steering wheel.

Katie’s Cars & Coffee happens “every Saturday morning – all year round,” said Lindner. “You can come here in January in 30 degrees and you’re still going to get 25 to 30 cars comes out.”

Here are some more shots of some of the unique cars:

1956 Jaguar XK140MC

1936 Plymouth

1952 Corvette (parked next to a Tesla)
