Received an email yesterday from Ken Anderson, who shared the news that his grandfather, Norbert Schickel, will be inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Pickerington, Ohio in November. Schickel’s company was based in Stamford and unveiled its first motorcycle in 1911. It sold more than 1,000 motorcycles before closing its doors in 1924. Schickel was responsible for popularizing the twist grip control and had a patented “spring fork front suspension” and “fly wheel magneto.” Anderson tells RIDE-CT.com that he plans to display 1912 and 1917 Schickels at the Rhinebeck National Super Meet in Rhinebeck, N.Y. from June 10-12.
