Updated: Double Recall For Polaris Slingshot

A double recall is underway for Polaris Slingshot models – for bad bearings in the steering rack assembly and for bad roll bars.

Model year 2015 Slingshots made between Aug. 26, 2014 and Jan. 9, 2015 and Slingshot SL models built between Aug. 18, 2014 and Jan. 10, 2015 are being recalled because “the upper pinion bearing may fail on the steering rack assembly, resulting in the pinion gear disengaging from the steering rack. The consequence could be a lack of steering control.

Some 1,896 units are affected. Owners are being notified and dealers are replacing the steering rack assembly free of charge. The recall is posted here. Earlier this month, Polaris instructed dealers to temporarily stop selling the Slingshot due to the defective ball bearings located in the steering rack.

Meanwhile, Slingshot models for 2015 made between Aug. 26, 2014 and Dec. 16, 2014 and Slingshot SL models built between Aug. 18,2014 and Dec. 15, 2014 are being recalled for roll bars that do not meet
