Daytona Bike Week has claimed the life of a rider from Springfield, MA and police suspect that alcohol was involved.
New Smyrna Beach police Sgt. Eugene Griffith tells the Daytona Beach “News-Journal” that 46-year-old Mark Twining suffered fatal injuries when he and another rider, 29-year-old Robert Wilson, also of Springfield, crashed early Saturday morning.
Witnesses told police that the riders were passing in the center lane at a high rate of speed when they crashed. Wilson was treated and released at a local hospital. The newspaper has the full story here.
Also from the “News-Journal” is a story about John Vodde, who owns and rides a 1912 Harley-Davidson X8A, which he showed off Saturday at the 10th annual Deland Bike Rally not far from Daytona Beach.

Honda is recalling some 6,954 of its CB500 and CBR500 motorcycles from the 2013 model year to replace an incorrectly manufactured retaining bolt in the rocker arm shaft that may loosen.
The NHTSA says “a loose bolt will initially result in a slow leak of engine oil. but if not addressed, the bolt can come out of the cylinder head entirely.”
The bolts are being replaced free of charge. The NHTSA has more info here.
