BROOKLYN, NY – The classic motorcycle show called Split’n Lanes & Dodgin’ Gutters has that name for a reason. It’s staged at the Brooklyn Bowl bowling alley, a popular destination in Williamsburg. It was held for the second time on Sunday and drew spectators who appreciated vintage and custom bikes.
More than 30 motorcycles were on display, the oldest being magazine publisher Buzz Kanter’s 1916 Excelsior board tracker (shown below).
Particularly noteworthy was a pristine 1937 BMW R12 owned by Pip Sarser of Northport, Long Island.
While the show had mostly historic machines, there were a few customs – choppers and cafe racers.
There was also a 1948 Velocette owned by Randy Hoffman.
Among the pluses were the fact admission was free and that the show wasn’t over-populated. Admirers could actually get up close to the motorcycles.
Ample parking also contributed to making Split’n Lanes and Dodgin’ Gutter pleasurable.
Food and liquid refreshment could be found inside Brooklyn Bowl, but right next door was the Brooklyn Brewery.
