Triumph has announced that it will offer a new adventure-touring model for 2011 as well as a couple of different editions of current models, namely the Bonneville T100 and the Speed Triple. New to the lineup will be the Tiger Explorer.
The Tiger Explorer is an upsized version of the Tiger 800 (and Tiger 800 XC), which has been a sales success for Triumph in 2011 with 10,000-12,000 units sold. The Tiger cub accounts for 20 percent of the British manufacturer’s sales. The full-sized Tiger Explorer, with a three-cylinder engine in excess of 1200cc, shaft drive and “ride-by-wire” throttle system, will attempt to lure buyers of BMW’s R1200GS.
Triumph also plans an “R” edition of its Speed Triple, which boasts a 1050cc triple power plant and a Steve McQueen edition of the Bonneville T100 in matte khaki.
More info on the Tiger Explorer and the expanding adventure-touring segment, including two new V-Strom models from Suzuki, will be in “The Republican-American” tomorrow in the RIDE-CT newspaper column.
