Ural is out with a new limited edition Yamal model and is touting it as “the only motorcycle that comes with an oar.” Based on the two-wheel drive Gear-Up and with an MSRP of $14,250, the Yamal’s sidecar has a double hull and a weather-proofed bottom and lower sides. (So does this mean it can be used as a dingy, too? Well, read on for the
fine print.”)
The Yamal, which is named after a Russian icebreaker, comes in flat orange with a teeth decal, fog lamps, rider fairing and passenger windshield, handguards, knobby spare tire and, yes, the accessory paddle.
On the side of the oar are “In Case of Emergency” instructions to be used if the rider “has wandered too far out, and the ice didn’t hold.” It suggests “you may want to follow these survival tips:
– Abandon all hope – it will help you focus
– Detach sidecar, jump in and then paddle like heck
– Rescue your dog – they’re better at finding their way home than you are
– Should you find yourself sinking, use your seat cushion as a floatation device”
The instructions are all in fun as a disclaimer notes “This vehicle is not a boat, nor is the paddle or any part of the motorcycle intended to be used a a floatation device.”
Only 50 Yamals will be sold in the U.S.
