Women Riders Are Happier Than Non-Riders

It’s question men have been pondering for centuries: How do you make a woman happy? The answer may be to buy her a motorcycle.

1-Bud headshot with HondaA new study commissioned by Harley-Davidson and conducted by the Kelton research company determined that women who ride their own motorcycles are “noticeably happier – in life, in relationships, and even in the bedroom – than women who don’t ride.”

For the study which was released yesterday, Kelton interviewed 1,013 adult female riders and 1,016 adult female non-riders and determined that riding raises a woman’s feeling of self-worth.  Here are some bullet points:

– More than twice as many always feel happy (37 percent of riders versus 16 percent of non-riders).

– Nearly four times as many always feel sexy (27 percent of riders versus 7 percent of non-riders).

– Nearly twice as many always feel confident (35 percent of riders versus 18 percent of non-riders).

Nearly three-quarters of the women riders surveyed (74 percent) believe their lives have improved since they started riding and more than half (53 percent) cite their motorcycle as the key source of happiness.

“Riding a motorcycle is the ultimate form of free and self-expression, so it makes sense that women riders are happier in life and, in general, feel more fulfilled,” said Claudia Garber, director of women’s outreach for Harley.

The study also showed that riding can improve relationships.

Women who ride reported that being content with communication with their significant other (60 percent of riders versus 38 percent of non-riders) and with physical intimacy (51 percent of riders versus 35 percent of non-riders).

More than a third of riders (34 percent) reported feeling less stressed after starting to ride, and 50 percent reported being extremely satisfied with their relationships.
