Zero Adds Dealers In New England

Electric motorcycle brand Zero is turning up the juice in New England.

The California-based company has signed two more dealerships in the region – Razee Motorcycle Center in North Kingston, RI and Rahn’s Motorcycle Engineering in Abington, MA – and more are being sought. They join recent Zero convert Mark’s Motorsports in Enfield, CT.

That is changing rapidly following the hiring in October of Bill Stone as regional sales director. Stone, who formerly worked for EBR, has been pounding the pavement – or, more accurately, driving the Interstates – trying to line up dealers.

“They didn’t have enough focus on New England,” he said Wednesday afternoon on Zero’s previous effort. That’s understandable as the company was, pardon the expression, zeroed in on upping battery life and improving the design of its products as opposed to landing new dealers at the opposite end of the country.

“We’ve reached that critical point where we are a viable motorcycle,” said Stone, explaining the range of current Zero models “equals a full tank of gas.”

Last week, Stone brought two Zero bikes to Powder Hollow Brewery in Enfield, CT for an evening party kicking off Mark’s Motorsports becoming a dealer. The quiet yet peppy bikes were demoed and Stone gave a lengthy presentation detailing just how far electric motorcycles have come in recent years and just how sophisticated the new Zero models are.

Stone said he hopes to eventually have seven Zero dealerships in New England. Signings in Vermont and New Jersey are expected to be announced soon.

What’s most amazing about the battery-powered Zero models are the lack of noise and the torque, making them unlike gas-powered bikes. “It’s truly a simple way to operate a motorcycle,” said Stone.
