NEW YORK – Team Pro-Motion, the Pennsylvania company that hosts track days at various race courses in the eastern U.S., hopes to be back at Lime Rock Park in 2017, although it has yet to confirm dates for the coming year with the track in Salisbury, CT.
“I don’t think that I won’t be back,” said Team Pro-Motion’s Glen “Goldie” Goldman during the Progressive International Motorcycle Show over the weekend – the double negative providing a clue as to the frustration he felt in being unable to promote Lime Rock Park as a venue during the show.
Goldman said that he has put in for five dates at Lime Rock in 2017. “The track said their priority is to fill their spectator events first. Once that’s satisfied, they’re able to make decisions on our dates,” Goldman said.
The delay is frustrating, and not being able to promote Lime Rock Park dates during the IMS was a lost opportunity. “It makes it harder on me. It’s not helping matters. It’s making me struggle,” he said.
The 2016 slate of five track days at Lime Rock Park wasn’t a money-maker for Team Pro-Motion, Goldman said, but that was to be expected going in. “Everything went fine. It’s a matter of building up a base of riders that have enough interest,” he said, referring to the prospect of Lime Rock Park becoming profitable in the future as a site for track days.
“In my mind, success is not just financial. People enjoyed it (in 2016). We had great weather,” Goldman said.
Lime Rock Park, meanwhile, says event dates for 2017 may not be locked in for a few more weeks. “As you might guess, pulling together the day-by-day schedule, with its thousands of moving parts, two-wheeled and four, is the ultimate in trying to ‘herd cats!,’” wrote Rick Roso, who is press, PR and editorial director of the track.
“That said, even as negotiations continue going forward to accommodate new and existing clients, we are hopeful we can publish the first draft of a 2017 facility use schedule not long after the start of the new year.”
Among some of the other race courses in the Northeast that Team Pro-Motion offers track days each season are New York Safety Track in Jefferson, NY and New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ. Those two tracks as well as six others have already been able to guarantee dates for Team Pro-Motion.
