One ride from this year will never be duplicated. It happened in August when I joined Will Paley when he took his French-made, 493cc Griffon out for a spin on Route 43 near his Cornwall home.
Paley’s purpose in riding it was to make sure it was ready for The Race of the Century on Oct. 13 at the Barber Vintage Festival in Birmingham, Ala.
The four-mile race was for motorcycles that were at least 100 years old, and the Griffon made it age-wise by a half-dozen years.
Unfortunately, mechanic problems that arose once he got in Alabama prevented Paley from actually racing. He’s now planning to sell the bike at a Las Vegas auction next month.
The original post showing Paley riding the Griffon made it into the Top 10 for most viewed pages on RIDE-CT.com during 2012.
