A Milestone for a Moto Guzzi

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

In the days before cameras on cell phones, riding milestones often went unrecorded – unless you happened to be lucky enough to have a camera along. While out today on a ride into the Berkshires, friend Brian O’Neil suddenly pulled off on to the berm of Route 41 near Sheffield, MA. Given the fact he was riding a 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado, my first thought was a mechanical issue, but that wasn’t the case at all. Brian wanted me to pull out the camera that’s always in my saddlebag and get a picture of his odometer, which was about to hit a milestone.

Brian put the bike on the center stand, shifted into first and rolled on the throttle until the numbers came up thusly:

You certainly can’t blame him for wanting the odometer reading recorded for posterity. While my cell phone would have done the trick, I’m glad I had a better came along for Brian’s sake.
