Leaner Harley Loses Family Atmosphere

By Bud Wilkinson of RIDE-CT.com

A reduced work force, a more corporate atmosphere, a reduced pride in workmanship and even some fear on the part of workers is the story of Harley-Davidson these days, according to a comprehensive report by Rick Barrett of the “Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.”

Barrett went to Harley’s plant in York, PA. to gauge the changes at the company where a vacant lot sits where 41 buildings once stood and where a workforce of 2,300 employees has been cut in half. The story can be read here. The picture shows the plant as it appeared in 1973 and is courtesy of Harley-Davidson.
