BMW R 1200 RT Owners Told To Stay Off

Owners of the 2014 BMW R 1200 RT model fitted with the Dynamic ESA option are being told by BMW Motorrad “not to ride them until further notice” due to “a1-R1200RT right front potential defect in the rear spring strut.”

The company says “at the present time it cannot be ruled out that the piston rod of the rear spring strut in connection with the Dynamic ESA option could potentially fail.” There have been no injuries reported to date because of this issue.

Approximately 800 bikes in the U.S. are affected. The problematic part will be replaced. BMW issued the “precautionary information” on Friday.
