MONTEREY, CA – Ducati dealers rated No. 1 this week in the just-released 2016 Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index, which annually ranks motorcycle dealers and their treatment of shoppers. It’s the third consecutive year that Ducati finished at the top.

Tying for second place were Harley-Davidson and Victory.

Ducati had a satisfaction rating of 116, with Harley-Davidson and Victory scoring 114. BMW and Polaris’ Slingshot dealers were next at 112, followed by Indian at 111 and Zero (in its debut in the rankings) at 109.

The industry average, according to the Pied Piper PSI, was 109. Seven brands finished at or above that mark and 12 came in below, including all the Japanese manufacturers.

Finishing in last place was Husqvarna at 94. KTM was next-to-last at 97. Yamaha had 100, Kawasaki 101, Honda 102, and Suzuki and Star at 104. Also getting a rating of 104 were MV Agusta and Can-Am. Moto Guzzi had a 106, and Triumph and Aprilia a 107.

This is the 10th year of the Pied Piper PSI motorcycle industry study. A press release reported, “The sales process used by motorcycle dealers is more effective today than it was ten years ago. For example, compared to 10 years ago, dealers today are almost twice as likely to offer motorcycle test rides, to ask about trade-ins and to request shopper contact information to allow follow-up.’

The press release added, “One of the few areas which declined over 10 years was salespeople offering printed materials for the shopper to take with them, which dropped from 67 percent to 49 percent of the time.”

Brands showing the greatest overall improvement from 2015 to 2016 were Indian, Aprilia, Honda, Victory, BMW, Moto Guzzi and Yamaha. Brands with declines were Husqvarna, Kawasaki, Can-Am and Triumph.
