LACONIA, NH – It’s a yearly ritual. Bill Smith of Harwinton, CT rides (or trailers) his Suzuki Bandit here for Laconia Motorcycle Week. He escapes the grind of working as a computer expert for IBM and serving as a firefighter and secretary of a local volunteer fire department. He meets old friends, camps out, and goes riding daily.
This year, on Friday, he took a turn a little too swiftly on Hurricane Mountain Road in North Conway and went down. Smith suffered a separated shoulder, while the forks of his bike got twisted. A trip to a specialist – a doctor for him and a mechanic for the Bandit – comes next.
Over the course of last week, though, Smith took some pictures of his experiences at Laconia Motorcycle Week and has shared them with RIDE-CT & RIDE-NewEngland.
Weir’s Beach on Lake Winnipesaukee is where everyone gathers to display their bikes and to commune with friends.
Among the those displayed this year were a pair of highly-personalized choppers.
Part of the ritual for Smith (below, second from right) and his friends each year is to ride up Mount Washington and check out the views.
In Canaan, NH, Smith took in some hill climb action.
While this year’s vacation to Laconia Motorcycle Week proved a little more painful than usual, the crash hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm for the event. Smith (pictured below) plans to return next year.
