Harley-Davidson is recalling more than 9,000 of its Breakout motorcycles (FXSB and FXSBSE) from the 2013 and 2014 models years for a faulty fuel level sensor that may provide an inaccurate reading, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports. The models were manufactured between March 20, 2012 and March 10, 2014.
The NHTSA says, “The gauge inaccuracy may cause the motorcycle to run out of fuel unexpectedly, possibly even before the Law Fuel Warning lamp illuminates. The lack of fuel would cause the motorcycle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.”
A total of 9,1o2 units are affected. The recall begins immediately. Harley-Davidson will notify owners and dealers will “update the software to recalibrate the fuel level sensor signal, free of charge.”
The Harley-Davidson recall notice is posted on the NHTSA’s website here.
