A 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle once the property of (and autographed by) emeritus Pope Benedict XVI, and later received by Pope Francis, is expected to fetch anywhere from $19,000 to $31,000 when it goes up for auction in Paris next year.
Entered with no reserve, the Heritage Softail Classic will go up for bid on Feb. 5 as part of Bonhams Grand Palais auction with proceeds from the motorcycle going to the non-profit Friendly World Association in Poland.
The Harley-Davidson contains the signature of then-Pope Benedict XVI, who was presented with two commemorative gas tanks during the countdown to the company’s 110th anniversary celebration.
He signed them and they were returned to Harley-Davidson for mounting on their respective motorcycles. One is in the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, while the other went to Rome where it was presented to Pope Benedict XVI’s successor, Pope Francis.
Other motorcycles included in the Bonhams auction are a 1974 Bimota valued at between $72,000 and $94,000 and a 1907 Griffon valued at between $11,000 and $15,000.
