Ice Racing Season Opens Sunday

In trying to pin down the date for this year’s IMOC meet (staged by the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club), I chatted this week with Jeff Lussier of the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in Sturbridge, Mass. That’s where IMOC holds it annual event. Lussier informed me that his club will be hosting motorcycle ice racing every Sunday, starting tomorrow. Practice laps begin at 9:30 a.m. with races to follow. Lussier said riders come from Massachusetts, Connecticut and beyond. Sounds like fun, so RIDE-CT plans to go for opening day. Racing continues every Sunday through March 13. I’m assuming that’s “weather permitting.” Lussier said this past week’s storm caused a big problem because there was so much snow on the lake that ATVs couldn’t handle it and there was a fear that the ice wasn’t solid enough yet to support pickups.
